Beschrijving
Hand-colored etchings on paper; trimmed within plate; total: 113 x 65 mm; nice impression, slightly smudged. Traces of crayons on the top and left margins. Published in Amsterdam by Willem van Vliet 1793.
Page with plate 23, designed by female painter Christina Chalon and etched by Pieter de Mare. De Mare collected the genre compositions by Chalon, he etched them in different states, and employed them in: "Zinspelende gedigjes, op de geestige printjes ge-etst door Pieter de Mare...". The small plate is signed on the bottom: "P.d.M. sc." and "Chr.a Chalon /f." Standing man with hat, smoking a pipe, helping a child to walk. Numbered twice: 23.
Chalon's drawings are extremely intimate and cute. These impressions are hand colored, which makes them even more pleasant.
